Sana before you start making the posters for some of the events mentioned, to save time maybe we should think of editing & re-using the ones we made last year?
If i remember correctly the uncles and aunties poster wasn't even used etc etc... anyway you should be able to get a copy of the poster from myself or nihad== but with limited internet access I would suggest contacting nihad and asking him to email you all the available posters via email --- (he should be able to give them to you as he's got access to the website folders , and the posters are all on the website etc )
With regard to t-shirts, i dont see why anyone who'se going to get them made can't ask for long sleeve ones to be done too..

P.S time is running out for people to choose tasks....

Salam! Wow - really good minutes mashallah - there is sooo much to do
I wanna start getting the budget form complete for; 1) Frehser Booklet (I need prices for the printing etc if there are going to be any costs - Abdul said that the Royal Free mite be good to use for free printing)
2) Eid dinner (How much will the food, decoration, dessert etc cost - once all this has been finalised i really need costings)
3) Eid dinner tickets (This shudnt be to hard to put a request in for but how many roughly do we need? 100-150? Should I make these and are their any from previous years that we can use?
4) Will some money for T-shirts be coming out from isoc money
Also - inshallah me and Abdul are working wid trying to get sponsorers - dones anyone know anyone else that may want do sponser us inshallah?
ALSO - I love the eid boat party idea - i think it would be brilliant. I knw LSE did something like that last year aswell - could anyone perhaps get in contact with them and see how it worked? I knw a girl from paksoc so i'll try talking to her about what you do about hiring it etc and how much the deposit is etc. I think people would also understand why the tickets are expensive becasue it does involve a boat. Maybe £15 for members and £20 for every1 else, however, it hink the LSE one was only £10.
I dnt mind beaing the team leader thing for freshers Fayre but dnt really wnna do it on my own! (i wudnt knw what 2 do)

AA,
I can book the bowling at Trocadero for Wednesday 3rd of October from 3.15pm (Iftar is 6.41pm on that day) and will let you know when they get back to me. Will book for around 20 ppl over 3 lanes with the £4.95 deal (1 game of bowling, 1 bumper cars and 2 arcade tokens) just like last year iA. If you have any thoughts on this, go ahead. The poster from last year should be sufficient, just needs updating. In all this should be too much of an issue iA.
We still have a many ‘loose ends’ from Rashid’s earlier minutes, so I would really encourage as many of you especially those of you on the New Exec to pick a task, no matter how small, that you know you can complete. It’s unrealistic to expect one person to do all the running around for Freshers Fayre, Uncles and Aunties etc etc and that’s never been the way we’ve worked. We need teams behind team leaders and that would really put us in good stead for the upcoming year espec. as many bros/sisters starting clinics this year may not be around Bloomsbury as much as last year.

AA,
Call me a killjoy/bore etc etc, but what's wrong with the existing non-aquatic form of RUMS Isoc eid dinners? For me RUMS Isoc eid dinners in the past have allowed me to conclude the holy month of Ramadan with good food and a chance to relax with friends within an air of community. I think this is what people value greatly in the event. Hosting the event on a boat will not add (or subtract) to this in any meaningful way and therefore can't justify the extra cash, planning, the possibility of not as many people turning up due to the sudden price bump and so on and so forth. I say don't fix it if it aint broke and stick with what we know works. Just my opinion.
Wslm,
Saj

where is everyone? I think part of the problem is that this thread is not obvious to find, if its not in the most recent 10 posts list. i think nma said something along those lines in another part of the forum... it is really essential that people who log on are directed to the right threads, and also that they make the effort to post something. at the moment both are lacking , and at this snails pace things are not looking up for freshers wk. again, where is everyone??

Salaam every1, sorry 4 the long absence. I don't mind being team leader 4 the Eid Dinner or is someone else already in charge of this. So where shall I start, calling up potential caterers and get things moving from there?

Salaam!! ;D As i volunteered to update ALL the freshers week posters, jst to let everyone know, i have done that, and sent them to nihad and rashid maybe 2 weeks ago to distribute to the right people and place on the website. my job is done now. if you need the posters , now you know who has them iA. also, rather than sendin them back to me, i am sure that any minor adjustments you would like to be made (if you are leading a particular event) will be very easy on photoshop iA, so feel free to adjust at will. i have updated all the details though as they stood last month, so they should be fine insha'allah. salaam, these are the meeting minutes held on last Tuesday (16/10/07) typed up by Sr Ayeshah and Written by Sr Shirin:
Topics discussed • Bowling • Eid dinner • FHD revision session • MMB revision session • Getting into med-school event • Seerah and Tafseer classes
Bowling Timing could have been better. Maybe in future make sure that all the 1st years have lectures that day so they will definitely be attending. – Can be done on ECM. Also make sure that no other events are taking place such as football trials – this could be a lot more trickier. 4 sisters and 1 brother attended from the 1st Year. The event was promoted well at the fresher’s fair – people just couldn’t come due to other commitments.
Eid Dinner Ahmir has full details for this including programme etc 91 tickets + 20 reservations – so realistically only about 40 more tickets can be sold
FHD Revision Venue is JBR. Abdul will try and see if this can be changed or maybe we can move venues halfway through. Plan is to go through 3 past paper questions and give out a handout with 5 other sample answers on them. The exec are to carry sugn up forms around with them to encourage people to go and join at CSC.
MMB Revision 1. Availability of dissection room, Haider and a date need to be confirmed, - Abdul and Shirin 2. Shirin in sorting out a handout with pneumonics 3. Approx 15 people should be attending – onle members allowed or they have to pay 3 pounds.
Getting into med-school event On 3rd Novemeber – plans to delay it so that maybe we could do more advertising and perhaps have mock interviews – a full panel not required just some rooms need booking. Abdul will speak to Sana
Seerah and Tafseer classes If we were to have sister only sessions – would that be worthwhile? Would we have enough sisters attending or should we just stick to what UCL isoc provide?
Topic Agreed: Companions and Wives of the prophet (SAW) Date Agreed: Will start in December

Salaam, Here are the (much delayed) meeting minutes for the Eid dinner review meeting: RUMS ISOC Meeting 31/10/07 15:00 Present: Abdul Alim, Ahmir, Ayeshah, Ilhan, Rashid, Shirin, Sofia, Agenda: 1. To review Eid dinner 2. Discuss upcoming events, such as seerah classes and med school interviews 1. Eid dinner +vest: Approx £763 profit in tix sales; £609 donations on the night; £8982 profit for charity in total. Had many sponsors: MDU, Ambala, Emel magazine to name a few Food was good. Therefore need to establish better contact with Gulshan Iqbal caterers for next year. Should ask if people are veg/non veg when selling tix next year. Plan to make it more of an annual charity dinner (on Thurs of CW) than an Eid dinner in the future, as Eid will be so far gone. Improvements • Problems with hearing the talk: Sound system and projector should be set up very early to test it. Only one mic necessary and should be placed close to speakers mouth. • Contact stage crew to set up lighting – we are entitled to have an AV person on standby during the whole event, should make use of this in the future. • Improving segregation – more boards? • We should serve food in the future to speed up process. • Printing brother/ sister tix to know male: female ratio. Making the Eid dinner bigger • Target: 300 people • Options for room uses: JBR and another room e.g. Old Refec thus creating complete segregation with video link between rooms/Refectory (only bookable after 8)/ Cloisters/ external places e.g. Friends House as a last option. • Noor TV was present to film talk by Abdul Hakim Murad. Contact Islam Channel Events to film event, thus gaining a larger audience. • Future suggested ticket price : £12 Early Planning for Eid Dinner • Contacting potential speakers early on. • Food use in JBR: is permitted but need to state it’s from an external source. Also needs to be done early on in the year. • Apply early to MDU for sponsorship ( in January for Eid dinner 08’) • Also need to contact Islamic Bank of Britain • Maintaining contact with donors and sponsors: 1. List items donated 2. Who contacted them originally 3. Contact details for future reference 2. Upcoming events Seerah classes Mondays 5 - 7pm Ideally in Foster Court 101/ if not then in Rockefeller. Will spend 1st few sessions reviewing Makkan & Madani periods of Rasool’s (SAW) life, to then move on to the sahaba and mothers of the believers. Med school interviews Will be held in December 1st weekend of holidays. £5 charge Rough plan of what will occur in the day: interviews am/pm, 1hr lecture on things such as interview tips, personal statements, what the medical course is like. Need to book seminar rooms and LT2. Note: for full details of the aforementioned event: have a look at the thread related to it: www.rumsisoc.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=academic&action=display&thread=1192399390&page=2#1195065084Wasalaam, Ilhan
