Salaam Brothers and Sisters
As some of you may know the talk that was supposed to take place in freshers week has been canceled. We need something else to replace the event and im open to suggestions. I have tried organizing go karting but it does not seem to be a feasible replacement.

aa, [glow=red,2,300] I would probably go with a talk. [/glow] ws NMA P.S. a talk typically involves the arranging of a location and a speaker, then advertising. You have already missed the first advertising deadline. this workload can be reduced if you go for a student led thing. In some ways this is like a big meeting then, but consider somewhere like the TLR, or maybe the Dent Room for it. incidently the TLR was booked through the med. school, not the college room booking system, the last time i checked.

Salaam
Ive been thinking about what we could do and some suggestions that i have come up with are going to London zoo and having a picnic, just having a picnic or maybe even host the first Rums Isoc Weekly Meeting. So if people could tell me what they think of the ideas it would be much appreciated.
In response to NMA's suggestion yes we could have a talk and yes that was the original plan but unfortunately i don't think it will work that well plus we are very short on time.

AA, why don't you think it would work well? As I said, a student led discussion is not very different to a weekly meeting, so if one won't work, then neither should the other. Please explain. ws NMA

The reason i don't think it would work is because which students do u think would want to lead it, I for one wouldn't want to! would you? and even if we did have it what do u want to talk about? i mean u did say to me people don't want to be told what they can and cant do and when it comes to Islam people tend only to believe and listen to what scholars say even if i was to say the exact same thing.

AA, grow up. chairing a student led disucssion is like chairing a meeting, only easier in some respects. if necessary, yes, I could chair. As to what to talk about: anyone who goes there will have something they want to talk about or hear about. And there are some things that have to be said, and much that needs to be discussed. What it will do is force you to state your positions on certain issues that other people will bring up. And as an ISoc, you guys shoudl have this thought out. and this is something you really should know. There are many ways of advising people on what they should/ could do, and what is best avoided. This sort of event is open to all, and so you will also cover non muslims who want to know some things. The only time this becomes a problem is if you can't answer, and aren't willing to admit it. Yes, some ppl might go there to cause trouble. but then, that can happen anywhere, so it's not something that should be allowed to influence desicions. It is better to get peoples opinions and thoughts out in the open... that way you can correct them if necessary, and learn form them if that is merited. also, it helps build trust, and reduce mis understanding. Whatever you do, please be very visisble, and very advertised. We started earlier this week, and as i wrote elsewhere, the muslims are more polarised... many more are looking for the isoc. ws NMA

Ok i don't mind as long as you are happy to chair the event, in terms of venue do u mind doing it Rockefeller Cafe simply because room booking will be a little bit difficult right now. Oh and a note to everyone else we are going to London Zoo on Saturday the !st of October 2005. Please read the relevant thread for more information.
