Since the details are undergoing changes, from what I've read on the here, I've removed the banner from the website and from the Forums.
When the new details have been finalised post it on the forums and I'll add the banner back to the Forums and website

AA,
It's just been brought to my attention that Wednesday 4th October will be the ULU ISoc University Open Day - and it may be held at UCL (most likely since the bookings are to be made by us). Rashid will confirm details but this would mean that we'd have to choose an alternative date for the Freshers event I guess?
Or would we still be ok to go ahead with our event since all of our students will have already made it to Uni? If we need to have representatives at the event or volunteers this may complicate things but to be honest I think the ULU guys are very well organised so it may not be a problem.
WS,
Shayan

AA,
Thanks guys. I’m gonna try for the 4th of October. About the time, starting at 4pm will be a bit late on Wednesday. I’d be concerned as to whether freshers would be put off by the 3hr gap from 1pm to 4pm. They might not wanna hang around. If we leave UCL at 3pm that sort of shortens the gap without leaving too much extra time at the other end (before Iftar).
So we can leave UCL at 3pm, get there by say 3.15 or even 3.30pm. Then bowl, bumper and arcade till say 5.45pm leaves us enough time to get to Regent’s Park by 6.30pm. If we have more time we could fill it with another game of bowling on the day, remember it’s only £2.95 per game.
So if you wanna add or change anything to this, go for it. I’ll send her the booking late today (to avoid another negative response) so I’ll see what you wanna say first.
So I’m gonna try for
Wednesday 4th October 3.15pm to 5.45pm
WS, Samir
ps. If ULU have their open day that day then some of us can help them out if need be. As far as committee/isoc members at the bowling we could cut it to a bare minimum if they need to help out the ULU guys. We can work around the time of their fayre. I’m sure leaving at 3pm is late enough to provide some time overlap between their and our event.

Salaam Samir,
i think this is fine, and iA i think having the ULU event running at the same time shouldnt be too much of a problem..
i like the idea of having the extra time, and not having to hurry to get there to the bowling alley..also with the spare time, those that want to have an extra game of bowling can, and those that would rather go bumper caring they can too! Late comers wouldnt be a problem...so yeah i like the plan..

AA Samir,
Am liking Wednesday, agreeing with rashid in terms of losing the problem of rushing etc - from my experience no1 is ever on time! And this will give you lot a lot more leeway in terms of late arrivers.
I'll put the new banner up when the details have been finalised and some1's made it (i.e. someone = Rashid - our resident MS Paint expert!) ;D

Saj

AA guys, Alhamdulillah I've got some good news guys , we can have 3.15pm to 5.45pm on Wednesday 4th October at Trocadero. Just for peace of mind this is the e-mail she sent me. Samir That's fine - I have booked you in on the 4th at 3.15pm for Student Opt 2. You can pay in full on the day - please let me know if you can't make it for any reason. Thanks JudyI don't mean to be pedantic or anything but ideally if Yasmin could maybe ring them up, in say a few days and just run thru all the details but more just to speak to someone in person. I've given her your name already so if you wanna do this in a couple of days or so you can and the booking is under 'UCL Bowling group'. So you guys can go ahead with your leaflet and I look forward to hopefully giving some feedback on that soon. WS, Samir

Heres updated poster... wat you guys think?

Salaam everyone, I like the poster guys. I was just thinking maybe the title ‘Freshers, Bowling, Iftaar and Dinner’ could be bigger. Also just a small point but maybe both your posters for aunties and uncles and the bowling could have a white border around them. I think that would look a lot sharper, less like a photo (and somewhere to put their thumb!) also if it needs to be stamped by UCL Union Media and Communications prior to distribution their stamp would be clear against a white border. Oh yeah, after the word dinner that little pic, it might look a little bitsy when the actual poster/leaflet is printed, but you can make a better judgment on that. I was also thinking that the word ‘Trocadero’ could be more prominent as most people looking at the neon lights and the alleys may not recognize it. I think the London Trocadero logo from their website (geeesh I wish I could paste it but I’ll send it to Rashid’s hotmail), looks distinctive and eye-catching. When people see it they may not have been there but they will know which Trocadero your talking about. Maybe you could replace the word Trocadero you’ve written in with the logo and make the ‘Bowling @’ bit of a similar size as well. I know your tight on space and we wanna avoid things looking cluttered, so you can drop that idea if it can’t fit or messes things up. The ‘Wednesday 4th’ bit look a little bolder than the rest (or is it me?), maybe the rest could also be emboldened. Just a suggestion but: DATE: Wednesday 4th October (got rid of ‘of’) TIME: Meet Outside Cruciform @ 3pm (instead of 3.00) Bowling @ Trocadero (followed by Iftaar at Regent’s Park Mosque @ 6.30pm (reworded) Dinner @ Edgware Road (one ‘e’ in Edgware) Sorry these are just small changes, but they just ‘buy’ you a bit more space. Anyway I hope this doesn’t take too much time or anything but overall the poster is looking absolutely fabulous . Take care, WS, Samir

Salaam Rashid, Wow the posters are looking great, both of them . The ‘Aunties and Uncles’ poster looks pretty much done to me. I just have a small point, am feeling a little shy saying this coz you’ve put so much work into it but I still think that the title for the bowling poster ‘Freshers Bowling, Iftar and Dinner’ could be a bit bigger . If you really wanna keep the 'food' pic maybe you could split the title into two lines? You see, the ‘Aunties and Uncles’ title looks nice and big, maybe the bowling title could be that size or a little smaller (?). Also I think that ‘Edgware Road’ can just be written down as Edgware Road and no need for the Tube logo coz the writing would be too small to read from a distance and some smart aleck may think we’re having dinner at the tube station (!). Anyway that’s all from me , we’ll see what others think, Take care, WS, Samir

salam al alaikum all, sorry for the inactivity on the forums, been away for a week and a bit, really like the poster, looks v good well done; lol to what samir said bout eatin in the station! yeh, maybe it would be clearer if the writing was bigger for the event title, and we should check if "edgware road" would be visible enough on the tube sign when the poster is printed in case its not samir, with regards to phoning up, i wouldnt mind at all, sorry i couldnt do it a few days after u posted as u requested. what sort of things were u thinking i ask, was it just mainly confirming things and going over the details/checking the booking etc? but i might kinda hav a problem with the date....is it possible to do the event on the friday, or even tuesday (instead of the isoc meetings this can be in its place for one week). or do lectures end later on tuesday? theyre supposed to end early on a friday arent they, coz no sociology yet for first years, and do second years start pds straight away? thing with the wednesday, i dont think the issue of sports trials was emphasised enough, coz if theyve started with a sport, they may not want to skip the second week; and sports trials are a very valuable thing - to try out new sports in my opinion and id have thought that many people would want to attend them and try out new sports ...and i had a list of sports i was hoping to try out this year and somehow try an organise attendin them is it just me that thinks that wednesday is not such a good idea? if it is, i dont wanna cause any problems then. sorry if im muddling the plans at this stage, wasalam yasmin

Wasalaam,
just to comment quickly on some things as im squeezed for time...
samir, i will get on to changing the poster again, iA will try make things bigger and better lol
yasmin, im really sorry about the wednesday date, but i think changing things now with everything booked would bring us back to square one. The other dates like monday, tuesday are already probably booked...
more so i think that the second week in we should maintain the meetings for continuity and give the freshers a chance to meet us..on thursday and friday both yr 1 and 2 will have pds..although wednesday isnt a preferred date, i think the advantages are greater than the disadvantages....besides the event starts at 3pm, wont people beable to attend both?
hope that answers ur q's ws rashid

AA everyone,
Oh yeah yasmin, what I mentioned earlier was if you had a spare minute maybe you could just confirm a few details like the date: 4th October, the time: 3.15pm to 5.45pm, booked for option 2 and that we have 3 lanes. You could do it now on or in the next few days. I've booked us as 'UCL bowling group' or something like that.
About the day of the event, I myself had it in mind to take up a sport or two this year but Wednesday is the only real option we have for this event. In any case as rashid mentioned we're leaving at 3pm so surely if anyone has anything planned closer to UCL such as badminton, basketball, table tennis (at Somers Town) or say squash (at Bloomsbury) or anything else nearby, they might be able to go for that as well.
Maybe we'll get a clearer picture when final dates for Sport Trials are confirmed and sports society websites are updated.
WS, Samir
