Posted from Meeting Minutes:
'Getting Thru Medskool'
-->Advertise this @ the Iftar on uncles and aunties as well as at the freshers fayre
--> In order to attend this advice session and introduction to the different academic sessions you must be a member and have joined.
--> Going to take place on Tuesday the 9th of October at 5.15pm -- Although this might have to be rescheduled due to it being Eid perhaps on the 10th or 11th..
--> I think we should book the room on the 2nd floor in the bloomsbury building at the back (towards the VSU etc)
--> Shirin and Shaarifa you two should be co-ordinating this - however everyone should be taking part

I wasn't able to attend the meeting would just like to say I'm not to happy about this members only policy. I know other people feel differently about this issue but if you intend of giving useful tips i don't think you should exclude people. As an isoc we should always try to help as many people as possible. Maybe think about having limited attendance and members get a priority to book.
Also another thing to consider is that due to the nature of the talk you may get a lot of non Muslims wanting to attend and if you exclude them by limiting it to member (i know they can become members as well but lets be realistic about this) you could be missing out on an excellent dawah opportunity.

Walaikumusalam I'm afraid I'll have to disagree. I think its a fantastic idea that we make the rums isoc academic meetings members only. For far too long we have had people not taking our sessions seriously, or abusing the system. It is far too easy to say we should try to help as many people as possible because the truth of the matter is that it always ends up being one or two people going out of their way, missing their lectures and affecting their own education to help the younger years... In no way are we excluding people, if they want academic help all they need to do is spend 5 minutes at the bloomsbury reception, join rums isoc and they will get all the help we can give them and more. Also another thing to consider is that due to the nature of the talk you may get a lot of non Muslims wanting to attend and if you exclude them by limiting it to member (i know they can become members as well but lets be realistic about this) Realistically, why won't non-muslims join? We're going to be holding regular large academic sessions, summarising their modules for them and giving them the best advice they can get in how to do great in their exams....Again it is very very simple. You want help? Please become a member...maybe we could have the first academic session i.e. this Getting thru medical school one as a 'TASTER' session for all..and inform them that they will have to join to attend the next sessions.. There will be many benefits of this, 2 of which will be: 1) increase our membership --> therefore give us more funding for our academic events 2) allow us to concentrate and fulfill our duties to our members

I agree that if you give them a taster session that to make future events members only would be ok as people would have the opportunity to attend and assess if the session will be useful to them, and once having made that decision they can join if they feel if will be beneficial to them

Salaam,
apologies for my delay, the confirmed room bookings for getting thru med skool are:
Cruciform LT2 on Tuesday 09/10/2007 from 5pm to 8pm
ideally we wanted monday as discussed in the meeting but this was unavailable for LT2 and hence to obtain LT2 we had to change the date by 1 day. i hope this is fine for everyone.
