Assalaamu alikum
This is a slightly impossible idea that is very unlikely to work but then again who would have thought we would raise £7000 especially when you consider the small size of the audience at the auction.
Well somone said that if every student at UCL was to donate just £1 it would raise around £18000 well this got me to thinking that if everyone donated just £5 we would have over £100 000 and would in effect beat the government. Then the idea of getting a motion through the union to back such a fundraising campaign occurred. I don’t know if you are allowed to put such motions in but it might be worth a shot! When is the next meeting?
We could use slogans like can UCL beat Tony Blair? I think if put like that it would get people to donate just to shame the government. Also on posters, emails or whatever we use to get people to know about the campaign we can use things like £5 is the same as you would pay for lunch… if we managed it, and the union backed the campaign it would be great publicity and I’m sure newspapers would be interested in us raising more than the government gave.
If it seems like we are being successful we could encourage other uni’s to do the same. If 10 universities aimed to raise £100 000 that is a million.
I do know it is a bit of an impossible task but I feel it is worth some consideration. Even if we don’t make the £100 000 we might raise a fair amount in the effort.
If the union won’t back it we could just try to do it by contacting the other societies and getting some help with it that way.
Allah today showed us that the impossible heights are possible with sincere intentions and plenty of Dua and a little effort. Well please don’t dismiss the idea straight away.
Walikum assalaam
