Salaam!
Yes, its that time of year again... ramadan.. eid... and then CHARITY WEEK!!! you may feel its a distant dream but in fact its just around the corner, and we all know how quickly time flies. The dates are 22nd-28th OCT. So, first thing is first. We need a charity Rep to step forward. I have been contacted by ULU Isoc and i need to get back to them. I think we elected Yasmin--- is this correct? I couldn't find the AGM meeting minutes...
Also, we really need to start coming up with ideas and liaising with UCL isoc on this one. Other unis have been planning for the last two months, and here we are, letting our precious free time during the summer slip away... without getting any real planning done.
We need a meeting where we can brainstorm and throw around fresh ideas for raising money. I think in the next month we need to get our ideas on paper so wen freshers wk comes we can get the new medics onboard and up to speed at the first meeting of the year (when is that? first week of Oct?)
I posted a few ideas on the eid dinner thread, mainly that we can take advantage of the turnout at the eid dinner by:
-holding a charity auction (hugely successful last yr)
-cake sale (no baking required-- buy proper cakes from a bakery in bulk, and then sell after (or instead of) dessert)
-bazaar-- sell nice stuff, can u think of anything? halal sweets was my idea. maybe scarves, or books
Now we need your opinions, your ideas, and your dedication... Masha'Allah the UCL isoc sisters are thinking up a storm with all their intense planning activities. Now its our turn to get involved and get cracking as well. if you are going to commit your time to any activity in the Isoc, this one should be at the top of your list considering we are raising money for a good cause and there is a lot of reward in that iA.
Hope to see people finally awaken from their summer slumber, to dedicate some free time at least to RUMS (who've done a lot for them over the years), and for them to contribute with a newfound sense of enthusiasm that only can come after a nice long nap
Take care
