Asalaamu Alaikum ;D Who is managing sisters sports for the next academic year? From the minutes of the last RUMS Isoc meeting i see it is Ilhan. Ilhan if you need any help with this task, I have a few other sporty sisters who are keen to get involved with sisters sports. Perhaps if there's three of us than we can do three sports, each run by one sister? Otherwise what ideas do you have. Perhaps we could run a poll online regarding what day of the week we should have sisters sports on (as the obvious choice Wednesday may not bring in as many numbers due to participation in other activities); although having it on multiple days may have the added benefit of appealing to clinics / busy students with varying schedules. Also we need to consider which sports to focus on. I was thinking we could do a few standard sports, ie football/basketball/badminton, plus an aerobics/yoga class, and then also some type of self-defense class. Obvo not all of them have to be held throughout the year, we could always do a one-term class. I (not being sporty at all) would definitely go to an aerobic/yoga and self-defense class if there was one, so perhaps this is a good way to bring in as many sisters as possible. With regards to the 'specialist' classes ie the yoga/ self defense classes, if we were to have them, we would need to find some sisters who are experts in the fields . Anyways let me know your thoughts, JZK Sana

AA,
Just some feedback...
The colour scheme looks good and the content of the description is also fine! Overall I think it looks fine and doesn't really need any tweeks.

I didn't know that we got to keep the t-shirts ;D , i thought that we kinda had to return them after events hence my suggestion of making them re-usable by not personalising them given adequate hygiene was observed - so I guess I originally made an obvious point . But this don't seem to be the issue no more....having said this I'm against the whole personalisation thing in terms of jokes - but wouldn't mind having names printed on them. As for the google images thing - technically lifting pictures off another source without consent is "theft" in terms of intellectual property, however firms usually don't bother when people like us use it. If we were to open, say, a sports shop, then they wouldn't be so happy if they found out... Ws, Saj -------------------------------------- Sorry I seemed to have posted in the wrong thread......

Rashid I've put the poster up on the website however the text is way too small - its barely readable. I think if you cut down on some of the text, if possible, and enlarge the remaining text it should be ok.
This is because the poster had to be sizeddown to fit within the pad.

wasalaam
just wndring wud be possible to have like the pic on the events page of the site act as a button/link? so that once some one hovers over it, he can click the pic, and that would open up the poster in a new page, in its original size i.e. much larger ...enabling ppl to read the text.?

salam al alaikum, the posters on the website, are they just under "events" - if so, maybe it might be a good idea to highlight the events subheading and make it big and colourful, temporarily, just so that any freshers coming in see it v quickly and click on it forst, and see about our freshers events. and also, sisters sports poster is at the top, can u put them in order of which is soonest ie mums and dads first, coz thts the very first thing and most urgent in terms of advertising, whereas with the others, people have more time to notice the other ads when they start. wasalam yasmin oh yeh, ps, under descriptions of positions, the one for gen sec (me ), it says someone who is "especially good in chasing things up"; is this something tht i am supposedly good at lol, or somthin that i NEED to be!!

Right now the events button should be cycling between different colours - highlighting and drawing attention to it.
I'll get underway in re-ordering the banners but I still need the text of the poster to be made larger a bit.

salam al alaikum, thanks, sorry to be picky, is it relatively easy for u to put yellow and blue as colours to cycle thru as well, ie is it just a matter of editin one simple step, if its too complicated, dnt bother, but i jus thought so tht it wud be more noticable tht it was goin thru diff colours than jus red and green, coz it sounds like a really good idea to cycle thru lots of colours, but i thought tht more colours would make it mmore obvious ?? wasalam yasmin oh yeh, thanks rashid, i found the sites, but i might not end up buyin em...150 dollars for the tracksuit thanks anyway tho

Asalaamu Alaikum all,
Sorry for being so dormant - I finally found time out of my my busy schedule to get my way here! I was just hoping Sana you could give me a few pointers on running sports actually. With the times we were given, I was thinking we could use Wednesday for specialist classes such as aerobics, self- defense or yoga and Friday for general sport. Maybe we could do different sessions for each term, so there's more variety and keep one class running throughout if it's proving poopular. Also the two hour slots could be used for two diff 1 hour classes. About running the classes, I'm no expert but I could give it a shot. Also, would you or anyone for that matter know where to find a sister skilled in self-defense or yoga so they could take that class - self-defense seems to be quite popular.
Wasalaam, Ilhan

Salam Apologies for my recent inactivity. The problem with having a self defence class would be the costs. I reckon sisters would be willing to spend 2 pounds per week for an hour lesson in a female only self defence or yoga class. if we had 10 sisters that makes 20 pounds for an hour session. perhaps there is a teacher willing to charge that, or maybe we could get it for less if we signed up for several sessions together. i guess it also depends on how many sisters sign up, obviously there will also be sisters from UCL isoc interested, as we work very closely with them in sisters sports. In any case Ilhan , i would advice you to do a bit of online research on Muslim self defence/yoga instructors when you have time; perhaps if you googled it you could get a few phone numbers and we could take it from there inshallah. we have a few weeks to sort this out as classes should start ideally after ramadan finishes inshallah, also keep me updated and inshallah i'll try and help out as much as i can. besides that i recommend talking to RUMS Isoc sisters about Basketball wednesdays and just generally make sure everyone knows about it! perhaps if there is enough of us we can even arrange a meeting point outside our home (the cruciform..lol) 20 mins before it starts. take care ws sana
