salam,
The director has replied and said that the standard charge is £500 for equipment and van hire. He wrote:
we are already very booked up for Jan, Feb so it is possible we may already be booked out for other dates, so give me the dates you 100% need so i can book you in. (He has the 27th free though, whcih is the wednesday). It would be best to have a general Islam theme, with a focus on the medical aspects (text book, surgical equipment), we will bring along all the items (posters, TV/DVD, boards, handy craft) , as part of the exhibition and already have the cabinets. We can bring along a few coins and quran pages, but nothing too rare as the security at a university would not be of the required standard. The cost is a standard charge of £400 + van (£70) hire and fuel (£30) total = £500, unless you want extra items. We will also bring along our Exhibition hand book (The Islam Guide) which can be purchased and has a excellent Quran and Science section.
Ayeshah can be arrange finance for this? and do you think we should genarise it a bit like he said?

Salaam,
that sounds reallllly good..and im sure it would attract a lot of attention on the day, but £500 is really expensive for one day..If you think about it, how long will the stall/bazaar area really be busy? maybe 2-3 hours in teh day -- probably during lunch time...so if you divide it by hour , it might even work out to around £150-200 per hour! ..plus we're going to have to get considerable fundingg....ayeshah how is this looking?
ALSO;; wednesday -- is it the best day for the bazaar? I wudnt say so...if u think about it people finish early on wedensday -- around 12pm or 1pm ..then either go out, or go for sports ...i.e. most students dont remain on campus...the best day for the bazaar would be a day that the majority of students are on campus and thus walking around thru the cloisters.....thats my argument anyway..maybe someone could roam thru the cloisters during everyday of the week during lunch time just to judge when it is the busiest?
Some people might argue that if we do raise £500, that we might actually have more of an effect in buying some really good literature and distributing it for free to those people who actually show some interest...I'm sure u can get quite a lot of realllllly goood books and stuff when you buy in bulk for £500....
But still an option that we should discuss properly ..
Good research btw! ws Rashid

ok this doesnt have anything to do with IAW and i didnt knw where to post this...well it can be used but i was thinking for like general, anytime of the year - preferably on a monthly basic, mayb more often than that:
but basically, I think we should like get together with other religious societies ie jsoc, hindusoc and christian soc, have some discussion/min talk on an issue that can be talked about in 10-15min from each religion on something, and then open the floor up for Q&A – automatically that’ll raise awareness to non-muslims, but more importantly the majority of average muslims coz a lot of muslims don’t knw very much abt the basics of their religion, let alone the advanced stuff , enourage them to come and bring alone their friends without feeling embarrassed of coming to an isoc event because it wont be just ne old typical isoc event (IE bigger turnout!!), they wont feel like they being talked down to or preached to abt basics, etc, etc etc etc....
Have it on issues like why have lucky charms, belief in “god/gods/trinty/etc”, difference in method of prayer, etc – every month or regularly - and it HAS to all basic small little nothing advanced stuff where NO knowledge is required sort of thing.
NB: NO controversial issues coz they take too long to explain in depth for people to understand properly and you dont wana make it brief coz then people will go away gettin the wrong message coz they havent fully understood the idea/ruling/or whatever it is.

yh your right £500 does seem a lot for one day and funding maybe difficult. As for giving out literature and things I think that Dr. Zakir Naik has really good audio cassettes on Islam and Science and they are not that expensive to hand out to anyone that is genuinely interested on the topic. I think the other days that are good for the first years is monday, tuesday or friday, because on thursday everyone is off on thier PDS placements and then have their SSCs so they wont have time to set anything up. What days are the ULU ISOC using? What was the film you suggested playing was it 'Islam an Empire of Faith?' I want to you tube it later lol.

Salam Sorry for taking so long to reply. With regards to getting funding, i am doing the best i can within my capibilities. The ISB that i have been told to visit is in Southall.....maybe a brother may want to do this and i dnt think my parents would agree for me to go there on my own (they may reluctantly agree if a few other sisters wanted to come wid me?!?(any offers?!?)) With regards to MDU and MPS....like i said before, the MPS woman is not back until Monday and the MDU woman has not replied to my email and has been busy in meetings each time i have rung...i do have her mobile number though and have left her 2 voivemails and left her a message on reception. With regards to greenpages....manager is VERY difficult to get a hold of. I have an appointment to ring islamic impressions today so if you could all make dua that wud be wiked inshallah Abdul you said you would get me details for HSBC Amaana....any progress?
I just wanted to add that if any1 else knows any businesses or companies then it wud really help. I know all of you probably atleast know one, or live near shops etc in central london that may be willing to sponsor us. Sometimes these big companies are very reluctant to......It is possible for me to contact this person and that person but i also believe its a joint effort. I will try the Petri Museum and see what the Alumni has to offer. Although....museums are nt normally good places to ask as they are government run. But if any of you meet a person from a company or go to an islamic bazaar or something, thre is no harm in asking them....i really need the help of all you brothers and sisters to get sposorships because it is prooving difficult and i knw we need some cash desperately.
Madeeha....ur idea sound brilliant mashallah and i am sooo happy that the exhibition planning is going well....but 1)Although the coins, books, posters etc sound amazing....i honestly dnt think we cana ffor them unless we get desperate sponsorships and donations. Even if we do get a sponsorship i reckon the ax it will be is lik £100 so we would need quite a few so wud still not be able to afford it. Do you think you can baragin with him a bit more? Tell him we are students with limited budget, trying to spread the message of islam. Throw a few hadiths at him. I like 'whoever helps his muslim brother, Allah will help him on the day of judgment' 2) If you can think of any place we can get funding let me know
Ok thats enough ramble for now....hope you are all well inshallah w/salam

Asalaamu Alaykum wow..masha'Allah good to see lots happening on rums side Just wanted to say..are you guys planning on having the bazaar alongside ucl isoc for which ever day during IAW, or u had in mind to have your own day for the bazaar? If it is gona happen at the same time as ucl isoc..then i would suggest monday or friday for the bigger turnout, as those are the days that the south cloisters are booked, (other days its south junction), and those are the days ucl isoc plans on having a 'bigger' bazaar than other days. ( sorry..dont know if this made sense! lol) Newayz just thought i'd let u guys know wasalaam Somia

i can try bargaining with him otherwise we'll just forget the idea. But in order to try and ask him to cut the price we have to agree on the date to make sure their not already booked up on that date.

salam walaykum, hope you are all well...i just found two books titled "islam-the FAQ's ,answering the issues" and "an invitation to peace"..i feel like this books are relevant to what we are all trying to do which is to create awareness...however since i requested them from fisabilillah publications i could only have one copy, however i think we could photocopy and use some of the info in leaflets or even in the posters since we are giving it out for free....i just wanted to know what every1 else thought so i could give the books to the brothers involved in making the posters.wasalam
