AA everyone,
Well I just got back from Hajj (still in Saudi) and Alhamdulillah it went smoothly. The last couple of days have really been…well...it’s sort of hard to crystallise into words. I was thinking about this and thought rather than simply recount my personal experience (which I guess I would have anyway if I had more time!) a more beneficial take would be to incorporate some of that into a sort of Hajj folder for the website. This could also include for example general info on the different types of Hajj rites, descriptions of Hajj itself including the significance of each of the rites and common mistakes in a clear and concise way as well as practical tips and advice on what to take with you, what to do if you get lost (I did, only for about 10 min, very very scary!) and how to perform each of the rites in relative ease. This could well be of benefit to those who hope to perform Hajj in the future. Of course this task is more of a long-term thing, the bulk of which could say be compiled over the summer when we have more time.
What I hope this will do is get people thinking about Hajj more as well as to address a prevailing mentality amongst many Muslims, a mentality that Hajj should be performed when someone is 70/80 years old to wipe out all their sins so when they meet Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala their slate is clean, or as clean as can be. One often hears sentiments of this nature expressed, rounded off a couple of seconds later by a wry smile, much to mine and I’m sure your consternation.
Anyway just an idea.
WS,
Samir
