wa alaikum as salaam, Welcome to the forums ;D it really depends on what you want to get out of your elective, and which ssms you want to try to apply for. Some SSMs, like PALS, are only available at certain times. Having your elective in block 2 is the best way for PALS, although there is of course no guarantee that you would get that SSM. As to what you want from your elective, well, do you want a holiday, a learning experiance, a paper/ publication, a prize, or a bit of all the above? I think in your year Ramadhan will be wholly within the first elective block, starting near the beginning of it, and this again can have positive or negative repercussions, depending on where you go and what you do... I guess the con to block 3 is that you come back and have finals pretty soon. A con to block 1 is that you come back with the whole year to do. Block 2 is often the most popular, but you also have to look at the calender dates... if you want to extend your trip to include summer/ Christmas hols... Hmm, feel like I have asked more than I have answered... more details please? wslm NMA
