AA Sisters Inshallah I was thinking we could organise a sisters meet n greet, either during our freshers week or maybe the week after if there is no time. we could have iftar and nasheeds... possibly play some games at the end. it will be nice to meet the fresher medics and let them meet eachother, as we all know how scary it is during those first few weeks at uni. Anyways let me know what you guys think.... Take care Sana

Salaam ;D It will be nice to hold an event with the UCL Isoc sisters, and definately there would be a greater turnout there. However What do people think about RUMS isoc having our own sisters event? it would allow freshers to identify and make friends with other medics and obtain advice for the coming year etc. we can even consider allocating each fresher a ´´Big Sister´´ seeing as there will be no uncles and aunties this year. however the question is, is there a demand for this, and are any sisters willing to get involved. We would also have to provide iftar, which would be nice, perhaps we can ask UCL isoc to help us get the food for this, and of course we´d need our own funding (?? is this possible? how much food would we need? etc etc) . Anyways I have emailed several sisters, and hopefully inshallah they will place their views on the forums very soon; otherwise it will not be done in time for anything to be published in the freshers booklet. Also, any input from brothers is also welcome WS Sana

Think having a rums isoc sisters get together would be great because often the medics are sort of worried about what the course is like n how soon they should start revising etc...think ucl isoc would beable to provide iftar as per usual, n we could jst bring some of the food round to wherever this meet n greet is happening, ...as for funding, im sure we can spare some money for the event, but to be honest i dont see much of an expense ...snack food from tescos or sainsburys should do the trick ...max i wud say it wud cost £15-20 and with the iftar thing the freshers will be stuffed... a good idea tho, and great way to help em n show em that rums isoc is approachable...
we do need final details soon tho... n a preferred room to be booked as well .... the booklet is iA going to be finalised v.soon take care wasalaam Rashid

Salam thanks for the response. Im still waiting on some sisters to get back to me inshallah before i can decide whether or not to have a separate event. the UCL Isoc sisters are more than happy to have a joint event, but i also agree with br. rashid that our having a seperate event could be a good way to introduce the medic freshers to the course as well as to rums isoc. Anyways ill continue to wait for some more input... will keep this thread updated inshallah. as for the preferred room, how about the big room in the cruciform at the top floor? or any of the foyer seminar rooms. it would be nice to have it in the cruciform because its ´home´to the preclinical students...and therefore easily accessible from LT1! wS Sana p.s. is the deadline for the freshers booklet the final final deadline, or can we still add things later? as i have learned, contacting people during summer is quite problematic considering a lot of people are on holiday.... so its hard to get things organised. sorry for the delays!

salam al alaikum, i like the idea of having sisters meet n greet.... an i think it wud be nice to hav us medics mixin with the ucl isoc sisters occasionaly - as long as theres more than one of us medics there! an i also think its important for rums isoc sisters to mingle regularly to get to know each other but i think the rums one should be towards the beginning of the year, in order to get to know the sister medics early on, coz theres no point wanderin round the cruciform not knowin each other for ages! an this secret big room at the top sounds really cool lol, havnt heard bout it before, are we allowed to go up there? i think itd be a really good idea to hav it there, coz its part of the cruciform, yeh our home, an it also sounds like someplace tht we dont get to see much so itd be different, an it also sounds bigger than a seminar room about the food, did u mean £15 ish pounds on snacks in addition to iftar from ucl isoc? or £15-£20 on food such as pizza/takeaway from someplace nearby? wasalam yasmin

As-Salaamu-Alaikum,
I think its a very good idea Sana, I know how hard it is and all support given is greatly appreciated. It is important to guide the freshers and let them know that we are here etc. I tried to help out a friend I met at last years uncle & aunties night, and we've become really good friends and she did really well throughout the year. All I did was give her support and guidance. She helped me too- it was a two way thing and I def would encourage this idea, count me in.
Take Care Allah Hafiz Moush x

Salam Inshallah we decided to have this event a few weeks into the start of uni, but before the end of ramadan so we can have iftar as well. This way we can ensure the best possible turnout, as we will have more time to advertise the event by word of mouth. What do you guys think about the third week of uni? With regards to the 15 pounds, that would be in addition to the normal iftar food that ucl isoc provides (i think they pay 2 pounds per box though, so for this we´d have to ask people for contributions). with the 15 pounds we can basically buy junk food, although ive been practicing my culinary skills as of late and wouldnt mind bringing some home cooked iftar food as well! of course if a few of us did that it would be much nicer than sainsburys food any day...... Also just to let you guys know we´ll inshallah be holding a sort of joint ´sisters íce-breaker´ with uCL isoc; mainly theyre organising it but they are keen to get us involved. Inshallah this will be held early on , on Friday the 29th of September. However this will be completely separate to the RUMS isoc meet n Greet which will inshallah happen several weeks later. Take care Wasalam Sana
