AA,
Just a quick question guys, would it be ok if I just reworked the intro that was included about me in last years booklet?
If thats ok with you I'll simply rework it, otherwise I'll have to dust the cobwebs off my creative hat!
Let me know and I'll post something up here asap.
WS,
Shayan

AA, yeah if anyone who featured in last years booklet (Shayan, Suleman, Farah, Rashid + Rahema) just wants to use their blurb from last year or rework it thats fine. Actually we though that the blurbs from last year were really good!!! But that doesnt mean that the ppl listed above have got away with having to"dust the cobwebs off their creative hats" lol ..... you can always pick someone else on the list who doesnt have a blurb yet and write one for them... ;D wslm

AA I guess people get really self conscious when writing about themselves. If anyone wants to do my blurb then thats fine (I'm looking at you, Suli/ Rashid/ Shayan). But I understand the sooner things are done, the better, so if a blurb isn't made by, say, Saturday I'd be happy to overcome feelings of self consciousness and write about myself but that doesn't let those three musketeers off the hook.... AA, Rashid - I don't mind writing a blurb about you but it may incorporate elements of last years...I enjoyed writing that...lol! By all means write something about me too (though last year's was quite good I thought, needs a little editing though). Saj - It would be an honour Sir to write your blurb! lol! I'll see what I can come up with - and if your not convinced than you can maybe post one you made earlier! WS, Shayan

AA, Drum roll please... It gives me great pleasure in unveiling the following blurbs for the handbook (apologies in advance guys if you don't feel they do you justice!). Rashid/Samir/Saj feel free to edit them as you wish before they are put into the booklet. Here goes... Rashid Akhtar - Mr PresidentOur newly appointed President has all the attributes you would expect in a President. Not only is he reliable and organised but most certainly leads by example! A genuinely easy-going, friendly and approachable guy who is always there to help the ISoc in its time of need. Rashid has played a huge role in revitalising RUMS ISoc and with your help will continue to take the society from strength to strength. If you have a problem or maybe just want some advice, look-out for & don’t hesitate to get in touch with ‘El Presidente’. Samir Khwaja - Brother’s Vice-PresidentQuiet yet most definitely unassuming, Samir has a wealth of experience behind him at UCL - you certainly won’t find him getting lost! An extremely dependable and hard working individual Samir has consistently shown himself to be a real asset to the Society. Not only does he bring a great deal of commitment to the ISoc but is also there to listen to any comments or concerns you may have. Having Samir on board the RUMS ISoc Team will certainly help ensure the year ahead is all smooth sailing! Sajjad Abbas - WebmasterWithout any doubt one of the Stars of the Society is our Webmaster - Saj! A really friendly and down-to-earth guy you wouldn’t realise all the work Saj puts in behind the scenes for RUMS ISoc - our fantastic new website & forums bear testament to this! Not only is Saj a bit of a technological whizz, but if you cant tell your Akinesia from your Syringomyelia then Saj most definitely is the man to ask! A real fountain of knowledge & integral part of the society’s success. WS, Shayan p.s. I noticed Sana's blurb was removed, if you guys want me to remove this too let me know & and I'll email them to Shirin/Shaarifa. Rashid - I take it your writing my blurb?

Shayan Ahmed – Advisor & Ex-President What can i say about Shayan? The question should be What can't you say about him! He's the guy who'll always be there for the ISoc and its members come rain or snow. A person that you can rely on to get things done, and to make things happen, Shayan has set the strong and successful foundations for RUMS Isoc for us to build upon. He has quite famously been named the ‘Granddad’ of the group. As the name will suggest he keeps a watch over everything and likes things done in an organised & well behaved fashion! Yet he's always ready for a laugh and good time! In fact, it’s almost impossible to find Shayaan without a smile! He is quite frankly is the oil that keeps the engine running, and the glue that holds RUMS ISoc together.
Suleman Rahman (‘Suli’) – Charity Rep
This guy puts the Bang back into Bangladesh....And as this years charity rep, he's gonna have to put some money into it ! ;p Not only does this guy work hard, but he likes to play hard too. Suli is a guy who sticks to the truth and says it like it is.. A kind, honest, and non-judgmental guy. Don't let that fool you though, he really is bengali! Honest!
Farah Bede – Charity Rep
Farah this year will also be Charity rep along with suleman. Farah has been active in RUMS ISoc since the day she started, and is one of those sis's who's dedicated in helping others less fortunate...from widening participation to last years sisters vice president, she is now our charity rep and can't think of anyone better for the job!
Rahema Bibi – Events Co-ordianter
Raheema is this yeras Events Co-ordinator, and we couldnt be more happy to have her on board! Shes the sister who many flock towards for moral support be it in matters of religion or academics! Envied for her pious and trustworthy character by both muslim and non muslims girls alike, sisters, you’ll never find a more kind and honest friend. Don't let her cheeky bengali smile fool you sisters, there's nothing fishy about this girl. nope.

salaam guys,
yeah i think we had the same problem last year...whether by including race in a joke, people might not take it in the best of ways..but then i dont want to be to pc either so that there is some humour that can be picked up from the blurbs..afterall people will most likely enjoy it if they think its funny and we're havinga laugh...having said that would like to knw wat evrybodys thinks?

AA, I agree with Saj on this one - I think it's maybe best if we steer well clear of jokes about ethnicity. Whilst clearly the booklet should include some light hearted humour, often jokes amongst friends are not perceived as such by third parties. As Rashid said you maybe don't want to be too PC but at the same time any fresher reading such a comment may not be too impressed, and if it's not taken in context it may put them off the ISoc if they think we're maybe judgemental/discriminatory (which we most definitely are NOT! . Also, Rashid in my Blurb you've spelt my name wrong near the end - it should be spelt SHAYAN (just the 1 A) and also the following sentence has an extra 'IS' - "He is quite frankly is (THIS 'IS' SHOULD BE DELETED) the oil that keeps the engine running, and the glue that holds RUMS ISoc together". Thanks, WS, Shayan p.s. Shirin/Shaarifa - I noticed a few spelling mistakes in the blurbs, thought I'd suggest you guys just spell check them again - though I'm sure you were probably going to do so anyway.

Salaam,
here is Waheed's blurb:
Well what can i say about Waheed? Someone keen from the beggining of his first year, Waheed has been someone RUMS ISoc can rely on to get things not only done, but done properly! As this years Treasurer he's had to secure some solid financing and sponsership and without him we wouldn't be able to subsidize your events like the Eid dinner and more!A easy guy to speak to and befriend, look out for him at our events (especially the academic revision sessions which he'll be in charge of!)

AA, All the blurbs have been sorted now (yay!) so thanks to everyone who wrote them Was just wondering if anyone wanted to make any changes before they are put into the booklet eg. were jokes about ethnicity going to be left in or not If nobody wants to make any changes and everyone's happy then we'll just put them in the way they are (after spell-checking them of course ) Thanks Wslm S

Salaam,,
think the joke at the end of Suleman's blurb should be left out due to the reasons that both Saj and Shayan highlighted...people might not take it as a joke, etc etc etc..
