Salaam All,
Insha'Allah the classes this year will consist of a brief 3-4 session summary of the Seerah (and i mean breif, abit like the last summary session in last year's seerah classes but a bit expanded upon) followed by stories of the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and then Mothers of the Believers.
The first seerah class will iA start next week Thursday, for which i will go into to uni today to book the rooms, and will post up what rooms have been confirmed. So this will allow us to have 5 sessions before the end of the term and hence we can start a session on the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) before the holiday and carry on after the holiday iA.

AA,
Next week may be a little short notice unless room bookings have become more efficient than in my day - it used to take about 2 weeks to get a confirmed room booking. If that is still the case, it may be unwise to promote the classes with no definite venue - it's always better to have these things worked out in advance as it looks more professional - as compared with having to hunt an empty room on the day.
You can always include it in the weekly email as a 'coming soon' event with details to be confirmed & remind people as soon as we have a venue.
Wslm,
Shayan.

Think you're right shayan! maybe next week is such short notice seeing as though the ULU ISOC Annual dinner will be on the wednesday -- which means im going to be shattered the day after that... We do need to get rooms booked asap, lol and shayan 'unless room bookings have become more efficient than in my day ' LoL, shayan you're not that old yet! save the 'back in my day..' line for the freshers lol but yup i do think it still takes 2 weeks to book a room.. on that note - abdul mentioned that treasurers are no longer able to book rooms -- can someone confirm this with me? Tis interesting .. Rashid

Salaam, The seerah classes are planned to start from the 10th of January, but our main outstanding issue is that we havent found a speaker for the classes, (especially the first 2-3, which are the breif summarised sessions on the life of the prophet (peace be upon him) ). The rooms have been booked as follows: The room that has been booked is foster court room 101- 10th of January from 6-8.30pm (this should have been from 5pm to 7pm but i didnt get the chance to notice this detail earlier as alot of roombooking confirmations came at once, but the room is still free from 5pm onwards, I will phone room bookings as soon as they are open after the holidays to extend it to start from 5pm onwards)
- 17th of Janurary from 4pm -6pm (due to the room being booked from 6pm onwards, will book another room when uni starts for the time of 5-7pm)
- 24th of January from 5-7.30pm
- 31st of january from 5.7.30pm
- 14th of January from 5-7.30pm
- from the above, the 7th needs to be booked as foster court room 101 was not free and also 14th wont be needed as its reading week, i will follow thorugh these things to assure the venues to be sorted out by the start of the term iA, or at least the 1st room back in (for the rooms that need booking)
So what the main problem is obtaining the speaker for the seerah summarry classes for first 2-3 sessions, I know Rashid is atm going to contact a speaker after he has these room booking details, but if everyone can also have a look out for any suitable speakers that would be willing to come, then that would be really helpful.

Salaam abdul,
university opens on wednesday the 2nd of Jan, and so should room bookings, so I will not try and contact the person I had in mind unless and until you fix the first room booking on the 10th of January...because I could tell him 5-6 and then if we havent got a room, it wouldnt look too good..
Also what is happening with the poster? has this been done? We need to send it out on the mailing list latest by tomorrow evening, and we also need to decide which heroes of islam we want to cover in the sessions....
The following were ideas:
1. Imam Abu Hanifah 2. Malcolm X 3. Salahudeen Ayubi 4. Khalid bin Waleed 5. Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi 6. Maryam (as) Mother of Jesus / or Pharoah's wife 7. Ayesha (ra) 8. Imam Bukhari and the chain of narration of hadeeth 9. Saad Ibn Abi Waqas 10. Salman Al Farsi 11. Muhammad the conquerer (of istanbul) 12. Omar Mukhtar?
I would say my favourites would have to be, Imam abu hanifah, Imam Bukhari, Muhammad the conquerer of istanbul, Salahudeen Ayoobi, Malcolm X and Ayesha (ra).
Abdul can you also please post up the dates and the times of the days that you havent booked yet (the ones following reading week) that go into march..
wasalaam Rashid
