Salaam All, This thread is for those of you that are interested in obtaining funds for our RUMS ISoc so we can do more events at subsidized costs or even free! All we need is you guys to give some input on where you think we should be asking for sponsership, details of who to contact etc... So far we have two leads - one is Waseem from the MDU, and the other is the Islamic Bank of Britain. I feel it should be very possible for us to obtain some sort of funds from both of these organisations..... Waheed, this is effectively your thread to keep us up to date with your progress, and if you have any queries/ need help and or advice from us Take care All Wasalaam Rashid

Salaam
i know that as the treasurer i should have been putting abit more up here on this thread, but there hasnt really been too much happening.
i got in contact with the islamic bank of britain. basically wrote letters to their london branches to negotiate a deal with them for sponsorship of the freshers booklets and the anual eid dinner. sofar i only wrote about those because we dont really have any other event confirmed which they mite like to sponsor. and once we have made an affiliation with them it will be alot easier to obtain further funding for anything that we mite decide to do.
in response to the letters i recieved a call from the edgware road branch today, basicaly they jst needed some more information. its not much but atleast we know that they are considering the proposal and inshallah we will find out more soon.
In exchange for the funding i have offered the bank to place a leaflet in the fresher's pack and to have representatives at the eid dinner.
thats all the news from me.
wasalaam Waheed
P.S. i would just like to dito what rashid said above, about any ideas. if any of you have any ideas about funding and sponsorships or what can be done to make our society look more attractive to these organisation please let us know. And thnkyou for your response, yasmin, greatly appreciated and will be looked into.

salam al alaikum, did anyone hear about the new opening of the new shopping centre!! this could be a useful source of funding close to the opening date (in bout a year i think) - ie we write to overall centre/manager for it, or we write to individual shops wanting to be advertised as newly opened and in the centre, this should be highly desirable for them, as we would be advertising to NEW students coming to LIVE/study/SOCIALISE in the area; i am sure they would love to advertise for themselves by sponsoring eg booklet/RUMS ISOC EID dinner (a social event), if they require advertising and they want to encourage people to try out the new shopping centre etc. wasalam yasmin

salam al alaikum, cant remember the name of it, but its near oxford street coz its part of the improvement of oxford street or somthin? um, was jus thinkin if we go up to them (in bout a years time when they nearly ready to open), and say if they want to be advertised to new and current students in return for sponsorship etc. coz was thinkin that maybe sometimes new centres opening may be really keen to advertise and encourage people to start using their site and start shoppin/hangin out there and let them know about this new place thats opened. jus a thought, not sure wot the actual view of the shopping centre would be at the time. if theyre really keen to advertise, then i thought they may be interested - perfect opportunity - advertise to students in the area wasalam yasmin

AA,
If the shopping centre you are referring to is the one featured in the Metro this week, then it is in fact going to be in White City (about 3 miles from Oxford St I think)- opening in 2008. This will be the UK's largest in terms of size but is still a fair distance from the UCL campus in Bloomsbury.
Due to the distance from UCL and the fact that such a major development will most likely have a very strong advertising campaign (think TV, Radio, Tube, Buses, Taxis, Newspapers, Magazines etc) I don't think they'll necessarily be keen to sponsor us to advertise further. Whilst clearly the owners of the centre & Retailers would be keen to capture as many of our pounds as possible I think if they were to advertise to our University they would most likely do so via Pi magazine, the UCL website &/or mass email system - to gain as wide an audience as possible. I agree with Rashid as I am a little unsure as to why they would want to sponsor us specifically?
On a similar, note it was also mentioned later in the week (also in the Metro) that the Mayor has announced plans for a major redevelopment of Oxford St itself, including pedestrianising the entire road and installing Trams to take shoppers up & down in length - though we'll have to wait until 2016 (at least I think, can't remeber the exact date quoted)!
Inshallah we will get plenty of sponsorship in the years to come. WS,
Shayan
