AA,
We discussed this a little at todays meeting (05/12/2006). Whilst the idea of holding Quran tafseer classes is in itself an excellent one (and clearly something that all Muslims should stirve to attain knowledge of), we were a little unsure when we could hold these.
InshAllah at the start of next term will be the continuation of the weekly seerah classes - I think we will need to consider how we might accomodate tafseer classes too. It has been mentioned to have a 'merged' class but I would advise against this. The beauty of Quran tafseer & seerah needs to be studied in depth to do it justice so it would be unwise to have a combined class. Since we have covered the Meccan perod it would be good to continue with the rest of the seerah at this point.
Obviously where a particular Ayah or Surah is revealed and coincides with a particular event in the seerah that is being covered then it would be good to mention this surah and give some brief tafseer.
Just a thought, will wait to hear your thoughts.
WS,
Shayan

AA,
I do agree that mentioning where a particular Ayat / Surah was revealed in relation to the Seerah would work out better, and in fact this was done by a number of the brothers in last year classes if I remember correctly.

I agree with both of you and yeah for know lets continue with the Medina aspect of the Sheera. I believe we have some 12/13 weeks weeks in term two may well finish the Sheerah classes before then so possibly just for this year at the end of the sheerah classes we could start tafseer classes. The other possibility is to run two classes a week but i think this will spread us a little thin in the sense that we may be overwhelmed by the amount of time and work, plus we also need to take into consideration the fact that for many people this will mean having to go home late on at least 3 night a week.
