Assalamu Alaikum,
During our previous UCL ISoc meeting, a suggestion came up of doing an event on Islam & Science/ Islam & Medicine and I feel this would be a good event to pass onto RUMS as our suggested speaker was Professor Zumla. NMA mentioned that some of his work included the medicinal effects of honey and he had used some Islamic sources and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it would be a good way to:
a) Have a productive event yet at the same time get the medics to meet Professor Zumla and realise that Muslims can be experts in their field.
b) Show Professor Zumla that RUMS ISoc is doing something and the Muslims are active.
Just a thought.
Wassalam,

Walaikum salaam,
Thanks for that information. I agree that this would seem to be a perfect event for RUMS ISoc to pursue and inshallah I will put it to the top of our 'talk' agenda with planning due to commence soon.

Salaam I have disscussed this with a few people and would like to hold an Medical Ethics talk through an Islamic Perspective during this academic year, idealy within the 2nd term. Jst looking at the post 2 years ago, can someone let me know as to what happened? did it go through the event? if so is Profesor Zumla likely to come again? GKT isoc have organised an event called "muslim medic" and have asked us to support it and we have agreed, the info of the event can be viewed at www.gktisoc.com/muslimmedic/ and iA i will sending out an email about the event soon. Also Zafar from Kings has said that iA he will try to introduce me to the sheikh on the event to see if he or someone he may know who would be ideal are able to come to UCL and do a similar event or us iA. Butif there are other sheikhs/professors/doctors who you think would be ideal for the event please do post up (or let me know) and inform us of him so that we can approach them about doing an event here iA. But I hope everyone do see this as quite an important event for us to have with us being an Medical Islamic Society. Wassalaam AbdulAlim

AA,
To the best of my knowledge this talk was discussed and we did some provisional planning but for some reason the event never actually went ahead. One factor in this may have been that we started discussing the event quite late in Term 2 which left little or no time to actually hold it.
InshAllah with a little bit of early planning this should be quite easy to organise.
Ws,
Shayan.
