AA,
I was rather surprised to bump into a certain NMA today, he sends an apology that he didn't send his article on life in med. school to you guys yet, and is certain to miss the deadline. As i think am i, now, although that does depend to some extent on what time zone this is... Oh yeah, he also apologises for not updating the website- but promises to put the new pages (with video clips?) when he gets back
Anyway, he says not to wait.
I thought I would send you guys a quick selection of things that we might be heard saying. most of these are actually NMA's, although in time i tend to find that a lot of them aren't original (even though a few probably are). Some are my own
I know he likes using them, and they are worth thinking about.
Always consider all the players in any situation
This includes the ones you know and the ones you don't. For each player, try to work out motivation, ability, depth and method of involvement- in other words, how they fit into the puzzle.
Always consider you may be wrong.
Consider it, be aware fot he possibility, but don't let it rule your life
The most important thing to teach someone who thinks they know everything is that they don't.
Self explanantory.
Never Give Up! Never Surrender!
Yes, from Galaxy Quest.
To understand what someone else is going to do, you have to understand how they think, and you have to know what they know. This is difficult, the hardest part being remebering that they may not know what you know.
If you don't speak, no one will hear your voice.
Very pertinent.
Hard work is meaningless if you don't believe in yourself.
Just because (lots of) other people do something, it doesn't mean that it's right.
Take a step back, and think.
Remember your goal, and, once you have formulated a plan, check back and make sure that it will fulfill what it's meant to.
Be opne minded. Don't just say you are, but really be open minded.
Be true to yourself. And be honest with yourself. If you can't be honest with yourself, how can you be honest with others?
Always consider that you might be worng. but don't let it rule your life.
If you think you know something, ask yourself how you know it- is there any basis for a particular belief? is it at all from any reliable sources? is a source reliable? how do THEY know it?
Poor Planning Precedes Poor Performance
No one can do anything to you without Allah will. And you can do nothing without Allah willing it. But remember that those before us were tested, so why should we think we would have an easy time of it?
It's a lot easy to think about marriage when you have someone to get married to.
Everyone is an individual- what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. That includes books and study techniques.
Make the most of your time... once spent, it can never be retrieved.
Don't try... Either do, or don't do (I think thats Yoda... anyone?)
There is no such thing as 'having no choice'. There is always a choice, but at times, all choices are unappealing.
Think through unappealing choices... they may not be as bad as they seem at first.
A cowardly love is one full of regrets. (hmm, maybe not so appropriate here, but I think it's true).
Take a chance. In the end, the things we regeret the most are the chances we never took.
You really can do more than you think you can.
Remember Allah in all that you do, and make the right intentions, for the best deeds done for the wrong reasons are worthless.
Eek, running out of time, and so much more to say... maybe i will manage to get online again a little later, but telecomnmunications aren't so good where I am going
actually, nothing is very good where i'm going, but then, thats kinda the point, isn't it?
until then,
wasalaam
