salaam ok i rang Chaudhrys TKC and spoke to some guy called Iqbal Hes offering 2 starters - tandoori chicken and sheekh kebab or veg spring rolls 1 rice dish 2 meat dishes 1 veg dish naan salad raita for desert - rasmalai
he quoted me £8 per head, you have to pay 50p extra per head for drinks and if he provids us with plastic sthingys and plates etc its also an extra 50p per head. i asked whether taking out the rasmalai would lower the price and he said no, apparently its just a fixed price for this menu. Ilhan also wanted to know about the halal chinese menu and i asked whether we can have some chinese dishes in our menu but it takes the cost up to £10-11 per head depending on what you want.
He will deliver to UCL.
Personally i think £8 is quite a lot and I asked him what alt he could offer us to bring the price down but he didnt seem interested and told me it was just a set price.

AA,
The ex-RUMS brother whose family run Mezbaan is called Zaheer. I think NMA will probably have his number - rashid I take it you are contacting the restaurant so I guess you could call him to get Zaheer's no. If you don't have any luck, let me know & I will call another brother who was in the same year group to try & get his no that way.
As for Sapna - they used to be excellent a few years ago & relatively cheap too. However I have heard that their standard has declined somewhat over the last couple of years (not sure as I haven't had food catered by them for a while!). It's always worth a try if you want.
Hope that helps. Wslm, Shayan

I have been to a few weddings catered by Sapna and there food is very nice, however it has been my experience that they are quite pricey but its worth giving them a call to find out.

1 veg dish

assalamau alaikum all, sorry for not bein active lately an bein quite lazy, inshAllah will start doin stuff now an bein more on the forums, sorry ilhan for postin this late, but inshAllah it will be to peoples liking.
this is a restaurant called Azmir, its on edgware road near the station and does good turkish-arabic food.
the guy was very generous, an kept adding stuff when i asked, there is a lot of options, but instead of doing lots of varied things i thought we could ask later to do more of just a few things; i asked if we could adjust the dishes later after i got the quote and he said yes.
ok, so for about 100 people:
chicken tikka (20 people, each is 2 skewers) lamb tikka (20 people) kebab iraqi (kofte ie mince kebab on skewer (20 people))
chicken qosi (20 pieces) lamb qosi (20 pieces)
mareq bamia, which is okra stew (one pot) mareq fasoolia (bean stew) (one pot) mareq bezinjan (aubergine stew) (one pot)
falafel, salad, 30/40 pieces of big bread, 2 trays of rice, houmous, and he said he would give us 4kg of baklava
I could get the lamb pieces (qosi) mixed with the stews, And have more of the lamb and less chicken, And the tikkas would be more than enough as a starter or a side to the stews and meat, and we could get less tikka and get more lamb qosi.
He said we could use the 3 big pots and the trays, but obviously we'd need to return them later
For delivery, he said he'd prefer it if we collect it, as he doesn't know the way, though he'd be flexible if we're desperate, I forgot to ask for drinks, though we can throw them in later, and also have to remember to ask for take away boxes for leftovers. Btw, how many bottles of drinks do we usually go through?
So what do people think? Do people like baklava or v keen on rasomalai? If people can't stand unspicy food, we could get like one dish that is spicy, and slightly reduce from the menu above to cover the cost, as there is plenty on that menu; or what someone did to make stew spicy was just add some green peppers and some small red peppers, so that shouldnt be too complicated if people really want spicy.
Anyways, he said £7, then he said he could reduce it to £6.50.
InshAllah all are well; hope u all had a happy 15th sha'baan inshAllah. Wasalam, Yasmin

Just a thought, what is the feasibility of going half and half, i.e. half total supply from one restaurant and half from another?

Salaam
Myself, Abir and Suleman have discussed the Eid dinner with the current UCL ISoc exec. Basically because the Eid dinner is during Charity Week...and UCL ISoc were planning a major event during CW for CW as well (like a comedy/nasheed event) , we are now considering very strongly them combining their event with ours...
BUT It will still be a RUMS ISoc event - not a joint event. I feel this is important as the Eid Dinner is something that we have to do according to our constitution, and many parties will not be happy with it being a joint event for various VERY valid reasons (if anyone would like to know please just send me a personal message and i'd love to keep you up to speed)..
khair, if ucl isoc people would attend as well, it would mean we would have to move from catering for 100 people to 160 people..
It would also mean we might have a comedian and a nasheed artist at the event. Tickets would be sold at 8 pound per head (any extra money we raise via the eid dinner would be donated to our CW total)..
There would be a Charity auction of some items, and there would be comedy and nasheeds..
I don't know what people feel about this, but If everything is halal then I say we move on and get to organising an EID DINNER TEAM MEETING -- where we can start confirming things etc and concentrating on making this event massive and a resounding success..
What do you all say..what are your thoughts? Remember again, for the sake of unity the UCL ISoc brothers and sisters will be attending the RUMS EID CELEBRATION ...and we will have one massive & inshAllah successfull event -- and maybe even raise a hefty some for UCL & RUMS ISocs CW TOTAL!!
Let me know what you think!! Wasalaam RAshid

salaam
by all means i think because the EId dinner falls during Charity week it would be a great way for RUMS ISoc to contribute to the Charity Week total. we should do as much as we can to make this a proper charity event, and i suggested at the last meeting we buy proper cakes from a nice bakery to sell, as well as get items donated to sell at an auction. i have an official ULU Isoc letter prepared that we can take to small businesses asking for donations of items and sponsorship. is anyone willing to go down to southall/green street perhaps next weekend to ask the shops there? also, if you have you have any businesses in your family, let me know ASAP and i'll send you the document. this is so important guys, i hope we hve some volunteers. take care ws

for the cakes, we can even visit a few bakeries and ask for a more reasonable donation, eg 30 small cakes/cookies or whatever per bakery. that way its less burden on them, they get the benefits of advertising through ULU, and we get free cakes to sell on for a 100% profit for charity. now, if we visited other shops, and collected 10 books from one shop, 10 hijabs from another, a few jilbabs or prayer rugs, we may actually stnd a chance to compete with other Isocs around London, who are all making big plans for charity week as we speak. we can do this, but only if we had the manpower of all of our members and had some enthusiasm for doing CHARITY work for ORPHANS... surely those two words alone, combined with RAMADAN (and REWARD!!) should make every one of us fighting for every opportunity to contribute to this project.
wrt the dinner, how can we be sure that: -160 ppl will actually turn up? if we have a comedy/nasheed entertainmetn part, i am sure we will sell the tickets i guess. do u have any1 in mind for this? -will 160 will actully fit? it was pretty crowded last time. i think the JBR max capacity is 160 but not when arranged in the large tables that we used. perhaps someone clever can visit the jbr and figure out the smartest way to arrange the tables.
