AA, just quickly: updated site with freshers events, also added freshers page. Sorry it's a bit drab. (at least it loads quickly) I changed the homepage to include an animated gif to the freshers page. they're easy enough to make, so maybe include some more of them in the future? they also load quickly, even on a 28k modem well, thats all. Islam page still needs doing... have some content already, but not enough for a whole page. anyone wanna write sum? ws NMA

AA, wow what? what fantastic job? they got someone else shell, and used it, and the site is empty. half of it is still in latin, which is just the filler for the article space, and this is mostly because... theres nothing in it. any 5th rate programmer could do that... but seriously, whats so wow about an empty, borrowed site? totally confused, NMA p.s. that said, i'm not all that impressed with the added bit in our freshers events page. whats the point? the posters on the side of the page are too small to read, and when you click on them, they enlarge, but if you close the window, you lose the site. also, it just duplicates what was already there, but with legible posters, designed for that layout, that when clicked on open in a new window and so when the window is closed, they havn't lost the site... And do go advertising UCL stuff when you don't have the info for it... it makes you look as bad as them. If you want to advertise their things, and there isn't any info, stick it in the forums calender, but not on your main events page. it's like, 'huh, thats no good, it says to click but then doesn't do anything'... also, there is no poster for it, hence more confusion... I'd advise you to fill in the blank areas before duplicating work, but then, it's your site now

AA Naadir,
I have tried my best to add to the site where I think an improvement can be made. I felt that when viewers were looking at the posters they couldn't read what was on the posters and the format didn't allow people to know at a glance when things are going on. It was simply not clear.
As for the Icebreaker session, this has been confirmed for 30th September 4-6pm.
If you think my contributions are not good enough then please let me know or if you wish to make comments please make them in a more constructive way.

AA, just to record that i have played about weith the skins and we now have three... the old colour scheme, called colours, this blue one, and a not-quite-ready red one. Also, have changed the layout a little so there are more recent threads available, that people can click on and read. It has worked to some extent, as I notice the ethics of dissection thread, for example, has suddenly recieved a fair bit of attention, after many months of none... but then no one knew it was there and no one bothered to look. Anyway, I have also tried out a chatroom located within the forum... This was requested a while back, and could be used for realtime online teaching sessions, for example. Lol, sory for my bad typing, I am using one of those ergonomic fuinny shaped keyboards today, and everything feels like it's in the wrong place! The board is called Chatroom (very original, I know) and basicallt features a zjava chat room code i got off of the proboards support forums. I can't test it, cos of all the firewalls andf protection of hospital computers, but will give it a go on the week end, inshallah. I like the idea of this code as apparently it signs you in automatically, so we'll know who the people in the chat room are. Also, totally free, including from advertising. if this code doesn't work for any reason, there are loads more to try; the next I would give a go to is parachat, although they include advertising in theirs Incidently, I don't think we can host a chatroom on the uclu part of the websire, as i don't think their servers can coipe with that yet. anyway, thats all for now. chill. if you think 2nd year is hard, wait till you gert to the third.... ws NMA p.s. I should've written this before, but you gotta take things more lightly online... cos you can't see the big friendly smile on my face when I type those things

AA, this is more about forums development... I got bred of just seeing 'active' written there, so I decided to go through and try to identify what all these active people allegedly do. HEnce I have added to their profile names, as I remember them, the teams they are on. i am thinking we shoudl have different colours for different team names, so if someone is on the undergrad. team, the sports team and the charity team, then they woudl have three different coloured titles under their name, and this might help people identify who to ask what. Anyway, I probably got the teams wrong, so please do correct me, or let me know and I will change them. also, any prefereances on what team gets what colour? i.e. sports team in blue, charity team in red, etc? wslm NMA

AA, so I've seen that the prayer timetable module on the front page of the website has been changed, to a copied module from Central. I understand that the reason for this is that the module I constructed appears only dated until the end of 2005. Wow, doesn't time fly. Firstly, Good, I didn't think anyone was watching for these things, but that someone has done that means that they are, even if they aren't discussing anything on here. Thats a complement, by the way, even though I'm good at putting negative tones on to it. Heres the downside: 1. appearance 2. practicality- can't see dates ahead 3. there was a very simple way to alter the old module and save yourself the hassle. anyway, just a comment from me, please do discuss things on here, it makes life easier. I don't know if the person who changed the prayer timetabel module will read this anytime soon, but I may play around with the aesthetics of it; please don't feel usurped or stood up in anyway if I do, it's not a pschopathical dislike of you nor a comment on your abilities/ commitment. But if you really needed that said, then it is a comment on your personality. Course, only you will know if that was the case. pschological games aside, I'm glad that you are still doing stuff wslm NMA

AA NMA,
I hope your elective went well and you have enjoyed your travels!
I couldn't find any good monthly prayer timetables like your scanned ones online, so as a temporary measure I've put the Regents Park times.
Following RUMs Isoc meetings about the website, Saj made a proposal which was accepted by exec members and is currently working on redeveloping the site. I have therefore not made any major long-term adjustments as we should expect to see his site online soon, so that comments/adjustments can be made.
This has not yet been discussed, but I think it makes sense to allow Saj to take control of the website once his new version has been approved and if he is happy to take the position as webmaster - I would still of course like to participate in other areas of the RUMS Isoc.

AA, so I've updated the webby with some articles that were submitted a while ago, and with my latest hospital review, Basildon. I'm thinking of adding another couple of ections to the forums- a board for articles to be critiqued before being placed on the website. a board of short one liners, in memory of WiseOldMan a board entitled 'medicine: explained', where we explain concepts of medicine in simple, short pieces. what do y'all think? wslm NMA

AA, This sounds like a good idea. I especially like the idea of a 'medicine: explained' board as this could be a valuable learning resource for both preclin and clinical students. It could also allow us to share expertise in various parts of the course. The board for critiques could be handy too as it would allow peer review just to make sure whats being written is not complete rubbish. As for the 'WiseOldMan' section... well go on then if you really want to! WS, Shayan.

AA, I'll get to work on the 'Medicine : Explained' section and other changes as soon as I get a chance. IT access is more limited on these distant sites. Oh well. I have changed the default colours of the forums to a more traditional style, mostly cos I was procrastinating some overdue coursework, but also because I felt a change of colour was useful. Everyone can choose which 'skin' they personally want to use, be it this new plain one, the old blue one, the multi colour one before that or a rather curious red one I havn't quite finished yet but started ages ago. You can change your personal skin from the 'profile' button above the google adds, method is detailed earlier. I think other people can also design skins. I am not using half of the features which are available here. Have a look and give it a go. Also added a note about the google adds being from google on the global header. wslm NMA

AA, yeah, I know I havn't gotten on top of the 'medicine Explained' board yet, but I need to write soem content for it first, and exams are also in the way. As dealing with content problems seems to be a perpetual issue here, I will inshallah put a post out asking ppl to submit articles and reviews again. I shall also stick a thread in the general discussion bit inshallah, for people to post submissions on... or maybe that should be in the public techie bit? thoughts please? I'm not going to actually do much work on this until after my exams, but I think getting relevent articles on relevent events is useful, e.g. freshers, ramadhan, Eid, halloween (cos theres always halloween parties), christmas, Eid, Valentines day, etc... I know I've mentioned it before, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record, then there is always a link to something relevent on the front page of the site. Inshallah I shall be able to do some proper work on this after exams, so the content problem may diminish, but ultimately, it requires loads of people in the soc to contribute, not just one person. and yes, I know I have to do the scrap book too. um, any photos from the last Eid dinner? wasalaam, NMA

AA,
I agree that the content is a bit of a problem on the website, and has been for some time now. Inshallah as soon as results are out for Yr 1 & 2 I will pester a few people to write something.
Inshallah, if results go well then we will have a redsign of the website which Jazeb has said he'll do. With respect to pictures from the Eid dinner I do have a few, how can I get them to you? Is there some way of posting them in the secure bit over the forums or should I try and email them to you?
Wslm,
Shayan
