AA, can't post pictures on the forums. well, can, but only in an incredibly cunning and complex way. just email them to a rums account. yahoo prob. best, even though ucl has a 100 mb limit now. dare i say it again... don't waste time and effort redesigning the website. Theres plenty to fill in and plenty of design work to be done as it is. redoing stuff that has already been done is a waste. if everything else is working hunky dory, then, yes, redesign, but otherwise it's really poor use of resources. This year, nothing happened cos we still goin on about redesigning. the only additions made were back in the summer, freshers page made first by me and then redesigned, and then whatever I added over the year, and the prayer timetable was sorted out. well, whatever. wslm NMA

other things, on the home page, headings are highlighted in blue, i was thinking it would look better - clearer and bolder if they were enclosed in a box instead, if thats possible,
and also, i think one of the things thats nice on the lse site is that they have photo galleries to put up isoc pics....sorry if we have one and i havnt noticed out of lack of familiarising, i will go check now.....
btw, nma, hope ur happy im giving some forum activity from me, 3 posts in one day!

AA, thanks for the suggestions, keep em coming!! unfortunately the website address can't be changed. UCLU regs statew that all clubs/ socs must host their site on the UCLU servers, which generates that web address. Although in practice, many socs host externally, UCLU ISoc being an example, I would not recommend doing this. It's not that bad, really, and besides, it's bad practice to try random possible sites. it's safer for your pc, and quicker to simply search for the site you want. We are the first result on a google search for RUMS ISoc. One of the reasons we try to advertise the site so much is so that people have the addy written somewhere. You might have noticed that emails sent by me include the web addy on the end. I should probably make that a standard signature, though. We also used to give out business cards to just about everyone, which included our email addys and web addy. This practice stopped a year ago when the then new exec didn't get any made. and we used to get them free. Headings in blue... um, you mean the bits with the white writing? yeah, I think they could be put in boxes instead. Pictures. well, we used to have loads, on the previous site. I never completed transferring them accross. Unfortunately, I have had very limited time this year, and had to divert what of that to the day to day running of things, rather than finishing those odds and ends off. The section exists for the pics, it's in the scrapbook section, on the life page... it's just blank. I shall try to get something up there asap inshallah. please try not to double post.... you can always modify the previous one, especially when the second post is a continuation of the first. See, I modified yours (cos I'm an admin) ;D thanks again, suggestions always welcome. I will prioritise the scrapbook over boxing the headings, if thats ok? wslm NMA

salam al alaikum, i have a feeling i may be posting in the wrong thread, but cant find the other one i was looking for; just before the 20 aug deadline for changes to the site before new one, can i make another suggestion?: in main page, under "Life" title, it says: "Living as a Muslim in a London university may not always be all it's cracked up to be." now i didnt like that when i read it as a fresh fresher, coz im not sure if anyone'll agree with me, but when u read somthing like that telling u somthing, u tend to feel wot they say, and believe it even tho u may not hav thought so before you read it, so it changes your way of thinking because u see that people are saying this. and i thought it was a rather bleak view, especially at a time when i wanted to feel that id come to the best and was in the best city so im not sure if its just me, or if it had that effect on anyone else, or may do in the future; also, maybe its not a good idea to put it as the first and introductory sentence to that section. i dont mean to offend whoever wrote; i can kind of see what ur trying to say, but somebody like me may take it differently, like everyones tryin to be negative. and anyway, londons not tht bad! its probably the best city for us to be in, considerin there are loads of halal places, lots of muslims, alternative forms of entertainment as opposed to drinking culture orientated coz theres a real culture here, and also, the people are used to loads of different types of people, from all over the world, so they will probably be likely to be nicer to us as well. alhamdulillah we're in such a city maybe mention some of this stuff, put a positive spin on it, can eg say, theres loads in london for a muslim...etc but sometimes u may find/you may feel.....(put something "light" here, not too negative or heavy, so that if they havnt seen any negative, we wont be putting ideas into their heads). hope this makes sense wasalam yasmin

AA,
I agree with what you've said here Yasmin because indeed I too feel we are priveleged to be in a city as diverse & exciting as London. You are completely correct in saying that despite the 'norm' that is followed by so many students there is plenty of opportunity to have fun in a halal way in London, and there is a large Muslim population too.
The website is not yet up and running but I'm sure when it is the intro you mentioned could be reworded. I think it is wise to put a positive spin on things and still warn people about the potential pitfalls to student fresher life at the same time. Either way I don't think the original article was intended to be negative when it was written.

Shayan
